Mobile Setup and Installation
Deal Run is built mobile-first. That means the mobile experience is not a stripped-down version of the desktop app -- it is the primary design target. Every feature, from comp analysis to investor search to marketing package creation, is fully functional on your phone. This guide covers how to install Deal Run on your home screen for an app-like experience and how to navigate the mobile interface effectively.
What is a progressive web app (PWA)?
Deal Run is a progressive web app. Unlike native apps that you download from the App Store or Google Play, a PWA runs in your phone's browser but can be installed to your home screen to behave like a native app. When installed, Deal Run:
- Opens full-screen -- no browser address bar, tabs, or navigation buttons cluttering the screen
- Has its own icon on your home screen, just like any other app
- Appears in your app switcher as a separate app, not a browser tab
- Loads instantly -- key assets are cached locally on your phone for fast startup
You do not need an app store account to install Deal Run. There is no download size, no update approval process, and no app store fees. When we push updates to Deal Run, you get them automatically the next time you open the app -- no manual update required.
Installing on iPhone (iOS)
Safari is required for installing PWAs on iOS. Chrome and other browsers on iPhone do not support the "Add to Home Screen" feature.
- Open Safari on your iPhone.
- Navigate to dealrun.ai and log into your account.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an upward arrow) at the bottom of the Safari toolbar. On some iPhone models, you may need to scroll down the page slightly for the toolbar to appear.
- Scroll down in the share sheet and tap "Add to Home Screen."
- On the next screen, you will see the app name ("Deal Run") and icon. You can rename it if you want, but the default is fine. Tap "Add" in the top-right corner.
- Deal Run now appears on your home screen. Tap the icon to launch it.
When you launch Deal Run from the home screen icon, it opens in full-screen mode with no Safari interface elements visible. It looks and feels like a native app. If you are already logged in via Safari, your session carries over -- you will not need to log in again.
iOS-specific notes
- Face ID / Touch ID: Deal Run works with your device's biometric authentication for signing in. If you use Apple sign-in as your authentication method, Face ID handles the login seamlessly.
- Notifications: iOS 16.4 and later supports push notifications for PWAs added to the home screen. When enabled, you can receive alerts for new offers on your deals, new buyer list activity, and other time-sensitive events.
- Storage: iOS gives PWAs limited storage (around 50MB for cached data). This is more than enough for Deal Run since property data and images are fetched on demand, not stored locally.
- Pull-to-refresh: Swipe down from the top of any page to refresh the content. This works the same as in Safari.
Installing on Android
Android supports PWA installation through Chrome, Samsung Internet, and most Chromium-based browsers. Chrome is recommended.
- Open Chrome on your Android device.
- Navigate to dealrun.ai and log into your account.
- You may see a banner at the bottom of the screen saying "Add Deal Run to Home screen." If you see it, tap "Install" and you are done.
- If no banner appears, tap the three-dot menu (top-right corner of Chrome) and select "Install app" or "Add to Home screen."
- Confirm the installation in the dialog that appears.
- Deal Run is now in your app drawer and on your home screen.
On Android, installed PWAs behave nearly identically to native apps. They appear in Settings > Apps, can be managed like any other app, and can be uninstalled the same way (long-press the icon and drag to "Uninstall").
Android-specific notes
- Push notifications: Fully supported on Android. Enable them from within Deal Run's Account settings to receive real-time alerts.
- Split-screen: Deal Run works in Android's split-screen mode, which is useful for viewing a deal's comp analysis on one half while texting a buyer on the other half.
- Back button: The Android hardware/gesture back button navigates backward within Deal Run, just like it does in native apps.
Mobile navigation
On screens narrower than 768 pixels (essentially all phones and small tablets), Deal Run replaces the desktop sidebar with a bottom navigation bar. This bar is fixed to the bottom of the screen and contains five tabs:
- Deals -- your Kanban deal pipeline. Swipe left and right to scroll between stage columns on the board.
- Hub -- property search and analysis tools. The search bar is prominently placed at the top. Below it, you will find navigation cards for Comps, Repairs, and Margin Calculator.
- Search -- investor search. Type an address to find landlords and flippers nearby. Results display as a scrollable list with an expandable map at the top.
- Sell -- marketing packages, campaigns, and buyer tracking. Create and manage your deal marketing pages, send blasts, and monitor engagement.
- Account -- profile, subscription, email integration, and settings.
The active tab is highlighted with the accent color so you always know which section you are in. Tapping a tab takes you to the top-level page for that section. Sub-pages (like a specific deal detail or comp analysis) are accessed by tapping into content from the top-level page, and you navigate back using the back arrow at the top of the screen or your device's back gesture.
Touch-friendly interface
Every interactive element in Deal Run is designed for touch input:
Maps
The comp analysis map and investor search map respond to standard touch gestures. Pinch to zoom in and out. Swipe to pan. Tap a marker to view the popup. Tap outside the popup to dismiss it. On investor search, tap a result in the list to center the map on that investor's property.
Map markers are sized for touch accuracy -- large enough to tap precisely even on smaller phone screens. When markers overlap in dense areas, zooming in separates them.
Buttons and controls
All buttons have a minimum tap target of 44x44 pixels (Apple's recommended minimum for touch targets). Filter dropdowns open as full-width sheets on mobile rather than small popovers, making them easier to interact with. Toggle switches, checkboxes, and sliders are all sized for thumb operation.
Forms and input
Text inputs expand to full width on mobile. Number fields use the numeric keyboard when appropriate (e.g., entering a price or square footage). Address autocomplete shows results in a full-width dropdown that is easy to scroll and tap.
Deal cards
On the Kanban board, deal cards display in a single-column scrollable list within each stage. Swipe left and right on the board to move between stage columns. Tap a card to open the deal detail page. Long-press a card to drag it to a different stage column (this requires a deliberate hold to avoid accidental moves while scrolling).
Mobile vs desktop: what is different
While every feature is available on mobile, a few things work differently to optimize for the smaller screen:
- Comp analysis layout: On desktop, the map and grid can display side by side. On mobile, you toggle between map view and grid view -- only one is visible at a time to maximize screen real estate.
- Deal detail page: On desktop, the deal detail shows a two-column layout (property info on the left, photos and supplementary data on the right). On mobile, these stack into a single scrollable column.
- Kanban board: On desktop, all stage columns are visible simultaneously. On mobile, you see one column at a time and swipe horizontally between stages. A stage indicator at the top shows which stage you are viewing.
- Marketing page editor: On desktop, you see a live preview alongside the editor. On mobile, you toggle between edit mode and preview mode.
There is no feature that exists on desktop but is missing from mobile. If you can do it on your computer, you can do it on your phone. The layout adapts, but the functionality is identical.
Performance tips
- Use Wi-Fi for comp analysis. Loading 50+ comparable properties with photos and map data uses more bandwidth than typical app usage. Wi-Fi ensures everything loads quickly.
- Clear the app cache if performance degrades. On iOS, delete the home screen icon and re-add it. On Android, go to Settings > Apps > Deal Run > Storage > Clear Cache.
- Enable location services. Deal Run can use your phone's GPS to auto-fill the city/state when you are searching for properties, and to center maps on your current location. This is optional but convenient when you are driving neighborhoods.
- Keep your phone's OS updated. PWA capabilities improve with each iOS and Android update. Running the latest OS version ensures the best experience.
